Big Green Egg 4th of July Burger Battle

It wouldn’t be a real Fourth of July celebration without juicy hamburgers sizzling on the grill. Here are two burger recipes to try out on your Big Green Egg grill that we think will spice up your Independence Day weekend with sweet Southern flair.

We challenge you to try them both, and let us know which burger is better for celebrating the Fourth in the Lone Star State.

Tex Mex Burger

Lime juice and Tex-Mex seasonings add a fun flavor to a traditional burger. Switch up your burger routine with these flavorful burgers that feature lime juice and Tex-Mex seasonings. Manchego cheese and sour cream top everything off.

Tex-Mex-Burger

Ingredients

  • 4 Nature’s Own 100% Whole Wheat Sandwich Rolls
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
  • 1⁄8 teaspoon black pepper
  • Dash cayenne pepper
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 4 slices Manchego, Chihuahua or Cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons sour cream or crema
  • Pico de Gallo

Instructions

Set EGG for direct cooking at 350°F/177°C.

Combine lime juice, cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper and cayenne pepper in a large bowl; mix well. Add beef; mix well. Form into 4 patties.

Cook about 4 minutes per side, adding cheese slices during the last 2 minutes of grilling.

Toast insides of sandwich rolls. Spread 1 tablespoon sour cream on each roll. Place burgers on roll bottoms. Garnish with fresh pico de gallo.

Makes 4 servings

Pimento Cheese Burger with Bacon Jam

There is nothing more southern than pimento cheese and bacon, and we have both! Best served with sweet tea, these fun burgers are topped with the traditional favorites to give your next cookout just the attention it deserves.

Pimento-Cheeseburger

Ingredients

  • 4 Nature’s Own 100% Whole Wheat Buns
  • 4 seasoned burger patties
  • 1 cup prepared pimento cheese spread
  • 1-2 sliced plum tomatoes
  • 2 cups romaine lettuce
  • 1⁄2 cup sweet onion slices
  • 1 cup crumbled bacon pieces
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar glaze

Instructions

In a food processor, mix the bacon, maple syrup and balsamic glaze until it is fully incorporated to make the bacon jam. It will look like a textured spread, then set aside.

Set EGG for direct cooking at 400°F/204°C.

Cook burgers 5-6 minutes per side to desired temperature.

Layer bun with burger, pimento cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato and bacon jam. Top burger with bun top and serve.
